Terms of manufacturer's warranties
Manufacturer’s warranties explain how you must maintain your vehicle and what changes you can make. Review the terms of the manufacturer’s warranty. Pay attention to the terms that explain:
- How you must maintain the vehicle. For example, the warranty may say how often you must have oil changes.
- What you can to do to change the vehicle. For example, the warranty may say that you cannot add a lift kit (change the suspension).
- The start date of the warranty. If you bought a demo vehicle, the start date of the warranty may be before your purchase date.
For disputes about a manufacturer warranty:
- Contact the manufacturer. Your dealer may be able to assist you in dealing with the manufacturer.
- Contact any dealer for the brand of your vehicle for approved warranty work.
- Research your options with the Canadian Motor Vehicle Arbitration Plan.
- Seek legal advice.
